Enter a wild and rare land and seascape. Restore your sense of place, purpose and vision.
Mark making on paper, on stone, on the land and in our lives.
Island Workshop gives you time and space to develop your art and practice assisted by experienced arts practitioners and facilitators.
Realise new ideas and developments in your practice with story revision, mark making and art play in response to the land and sea scape .
Come to revive your own senses and responses, to rediscover your resources, to realise your creative capacity.
Island Workshop is tailor made to your needs -
Come for a one to one session, or with a friend or two.
Sheila and Sarah can facilitate tailor made sessions at the writers hut on the beach at Church Ope Cove and the Sculpture hut at Portland Bill.
Bring your project or the germ of an idea or come simply to awaken your responses to this wild and worked place. Find a sense of place in the landscape and in your your own life and practice.
A minimal input from an Island Workshop can be enough to ‘interrupt’ or ‘displace’ a creative stuckness and help restore your creative sense
The facilitators are -
Sheila Ryan writing facilitator: Focus on mindfulness and on art-play; awakening our sensory responses to the landscape, writing it down, story making, telling and revisions. Working with the 4 kingdoms and elements to revive our more elemental, creative voices.
Sarah Gilpin Sculpture facilitator: Mark making on paper and in stone inspired by wilderness, sculpture, story making, and play……..choose your own chunk of Portland stone, get messy with clay draw or paint.
Walk from hut to hut, pick up a pen/camera, make marks, move rocks!….. dollops of encouragement + expert individual guidance. Stone, tools, mark making materials and a delicious lunch provided: bring your own camera, journal and sketchbook.
Come to our Island Workshop at The Sculpture Hut and The Writers Hut; walk the cliff paths, nooks and crannies; the pebble beach; the old quarries and rock shelves. ..
Stay at the Portland Bird Observatory near the sculpture hut or at Church Ope Studio near the writers hut. The former offers hostel style accommodation in with a fabulous view; the later offers self contained accommodation for 2/3 people. We can also recommend nearby B&B’s if you prefer.
